His ITV contract was ripped up, the headline bookings disappeared along with his management company, the writs from venues for cancelled shows flew in and Dan was left penniless living in a flat and facing a bleak feature.

But the 37-year-old has weathered the wilderness years and has returned with a social media content contour, a resurgent comedy career and a string of business successes.

He said: "I lost everything and it was devastating but I accept I upset people."I never fix out to do that but my brand of humour was on the edge and sexist and I pushed it a scrap too far at times.

He was accused of condoning rape and sexual violence after remarks from a 2014 show were made public.

"The campaign against me was relentless and threescore,000 people signed a petition to have me taken off TV," adds Dan, from Surrey.

"I was portrayed every bit woman-antisocial, which was nonsense, simply anybody jumped on the bandwagon and I lost my sell-out UK tour and for about half dozen months I was just kicked around publicly. I was cancelled. I was done.

"I lost everything, my career, my house, my savings and concluded up living in my girlfriend's parents' spare room. My dad then had a stroke and passed abroad and it was a very dark fourth dimension.

"Only potable and drugs seemed to do the fob and I only went deeper into despair and considered taking my life. Information technology was a very tricky two or three years."

Dan is near to marry his then girlfriend Shelley Rae and the couple have two daughters, aged three and half-dozen-years-old.

The drugs are in the past and drinking is no longer a corrosive influence.

The lad banter graphic symbol Dapper Laughs was created and he won a massive online following earlier graduating to mainstream exposure by ITV and shows at the O2.

"The cruise send content didn't piece of work so I went more risqué and advised and that did piece of work," he adds. ""I was much younger and then, naive and brash, and said things I wouldn't say now.

"I've learned from information technology and I promise people will realise that I didn't say those things with malice. I only wanted to make people laugh."

Dan took a risk to rebuild his public profile by appearing on Celebrity Large Brother in 2018 and it gave him a platform to rebuild his image.
"Information technology went well and people saw the real me," says Dan.

"They could encounter I wasn't a monster. I came out of the bear witness with a bit of coin and invested information technology in businesses that accept done well. I've got a nightclub, various online shows including my ain stand up-upwardly.

"I've got a film company with three films in product and a West End play coming up. I've got a supercar visitor and you could say they didn't manage to completely cancel me."

The dark memories are still there just they generate motivation rather than low. He also sees a counsellor weekly.

"I'grand in a good place now but it was very tough and I take to recognise that I need to look later my mental health also as my business," he adds.

"I congenital myself up from nil and I've done that over again. I learnt my merchandise and started doing stand-up in vacation camps and on prowl ships and so was 1 of the commencement to become into social media and video content which gave me my first agent and it blew up from in that location.

"I know I pushed my jokes too far simply cancel culture is so confusing, at that place seems to exist double standards everywhere, some of the Britain's biggest comedians have got away with maxim far worse things and oasis't been cancelled".

Dan, who is getting married to Shelley Rae this summer, adds: "It had to be put off twice during the pandemic just I'one thousand done with being cancelled, I'1000 back for proficient, later on all anybody deserves a 2d adventure and I'thou definitely ready for mine".
